SELES STSM2024
Download and Self-Directed Training Resources

Last Update: January 2025 (SELES STSM 2024 sub-release 4)

Note: Expect updates to STSM2024, especially the Sandbox case study, until the end of Feb 2025

The SELES Spatial Timber Supply Model (STSM2024) is a forest landscape model (FLM) toolkit that can be used for forest landsape projection and timber supply analysis. It is structured as a set of model components that include some pre-preprocessing models (e.g. for road networks), a central landscape projection model (the main STSM forest landscape model), and some post-processing models to generate indicators from the projected outputs from the core FLM.

The SELES STSM has been developed collaboratively between Gowlland Technologies Ltd and Forest Analysis and Inventory Branch (BC Ministry of Forests) over many years, and has been used to support land use planning, timber supply review analysis, and research and other projects.

How to Learn SELES STSM2024

Self-directed tutorial videos (free)

Self-directed tutorial information on use of the SELES STSM20204 forest landscape modelling toolkit is freely available.

Feedback can help to improve this tutorial information so that it evolves in a practical and useful manner.

The self-directed training videos focus on the Sandbox case study that is included with the STSM2024 downlaod. Video 1 starts with version 0 (Sandbox_v0_minSetpFiles), which contain the minimum files required to get STSM2024 up and running. The vidoes progress through incremental changes to build on this starting point to create a fully functional base case model with indcator outputs that can be used to meet the modelling requirements to support Forest Landscape Modelling in BC, as well as to support land-use planning, timber supply review, cumulative effects assessments and other landscape analysis projects.

Further training and support (not free)

On-line training with small groups can be arranged on request to focus on advanced and unique needs for use of the SELES STSM2024 in specific projects (e.g. for capacity building or for application of advanced features not covered in the basic training videos.
